My name is Peter Vanvliet. I live in Houston, Texas. I have been creating and maintaining web sites since January 1994, and this NASG web site since late-2011.
I am a professional software engineer, programming in the C++ programming language. I own my own software products company, called Fourth Ray Software. This is my full-time occupation. I maintain web sites for several select clients as my secondary activity.
When there is some time and energy left over at the end of the day or on the weekends, I am building an S-scale "modular", exact-scale, replica diorama of the Hazel Mine complex in southwestern Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, as it was in the summer of 1924. This industry was served by the Pennsylvania Railroad's Chartiers Branch. My eventual goal is to model as much of the Chartiers Branch as space will allow.
I started model railroading in the 1970s in N-scale (1:160), and switched to S-scale in mid-2008.
