This gauge acts as a three-point track-laying/checking gauge, and its handle can be used for checking the coupler height of cars and engines. The brass version is good for laying rail that is not yet powered, or you are doing soldering nearby. To correctly use these, make sure the single point is on the inner rail; this will cause the outer rail to be of a slightly wider gauge, which is necessary for proper wheel tracking in multi-axle trucks.
