This can be clamped onto any section of straight track. The item was produced from 1946 through 1956, in three variations based on their color, namely bluish-green, green, and red. The red one was only made in 1951 and is the rarest of them all. Reproductions of the red one have been made, but the genuine one can be identified by the text "American Flyer by Gilbert Co New Haven Conn U.S.A." embossed on the rear.

Notes:

This can be clamped onto any section of straight track. This was produced from 1961 through 1964. While this item appears identical to the #730 bumping post, the main difference lies in the clamp-on spring. In 1961 A.C. Gilbert introduced their new Pike-Master track system, which required a different clamp for the bumping post. The new design still made it backward-compatible with the older track system.
