The body parts were made out of electro-deposition of copper coated with solder. The roof and floor were made out of wood. White-metal details included the bolsters, vents, under-body details, and coupler pockets. Brass wire was included for the grab irons and handholds.

This was a body-only kit, supposedly based on the A.C. Gilbert #950 car. However, there is no record of A.C.G. producing a #950 car in S-scale (it might be that it was an HO-scale car product ID, upon which this model was based). At the time of production, the company offered an American Flyer chassis, separately.

This model was built and finished by the late Vic Roseman. He used American Models trucks.

Early in American Hi-Rail's production their shells were imprinted with the Instrument Design, Inc., the owner's parent company. Holt Apgar bought his with the separately-available chassis. Bob Comstock painted and lettered model.

This was the 1994 Fall S Fest car.
