Holt Apgar painted his model for the Boston & Maine. He added the grills by Des Plaines Hobbies. He primed the model with Model Master flat engine gray, then painted the top coat with Model Master's cobalt blue, black, and white. Decals are by Micro Scale and Woodland Scenics. A flat lacquer was applied to seal it all in. The Boston & Maine traded 48 FT locomotives for 50 GP9 engines from EMD in 1957.

The custom-painted and decorated model has had the LokSound DCC sound decoder installed.
