The model in the photo came to Andy second-hand and required some work to get it to run smoothly. Andy brought it back to its brass foundation, in preparation for a Canadian National 1970s paint scheme. He also noticed that the model was built with a combination of phases; namely, phase 1a of the engine was implemented on the engineer's side, and phase 1b of the prototype was implemented on the brakeman's side. Andy changed it to be a true phase 1a by moving the brake stand to the correct place, changing out the square sand hatch on the cab to the older style, replacing the rear Pyle dual light to a single barrel, and by rebuilding the step and skirt behind the fireman side of the cab. He also replaced the old huge Sagami motor with a coreless one with a gear head. All-wheel pick-up was also added, to improve running performance. Finally, he lowered the entire locomotive body by a scale three inches on the frame.
