The purpose of this page is to provide more information about Proto:64 model railroading.
Proto:64 model railroading represents the ultimate in true-to-scale modeling. However, this requires wheels with very small flanges and thinner wheel threads than regular "scale" wheels. Also, track rail spacing tolerances must be much more accurate. Trevor Marshall's layout is an example of a layout built to such standards.
NorthWest ShortLine (NWSL) produces wheels (code 87) that are tailored toward the Proto:64 modeler.
Some people have reported that these flanges may be too tiny to push cars (as opposed to pulling them) or have them go up a grade.
