The PRR Railway Post Office car is a limited-run urethane kit that bears the IDI name imprinted inside the shell. Painting and application of decals were done by Bob Comstock in the late 1980s. American Flyer 6-wheel passenger trucks and couplers came with the kit. This model is a combined 70' railway post office and express car with typical PRR markings from the mid-1950s.

Resin Kit

Finish:

Prototype Dimensions:

Notes:

These kits were reproduction Kinsman kits. The early production run had wooden roofs, but these were later released with resin roofs. The sides, ends, and floor are resin castings. The roof comes as one piece. Additionally, the kit includes one-piece plastic end railings, resin steps, truss rod stanchions, brakewheels, and two curved roof end pieces. The modeler needs to add truss rod wires, turnbuckles, underbody detail, end handrails, (stove) smokestacks, vents, acetate for the windows, trucks, and couplers.

Wood/Resin Kit

Supplemental:

Notes:

The kit includes resin sides, milled basswood roof and floor, cast-metal ends, steps, and detailing parts. This model is based on the ARA MB (CNJ 365-74). One version of the kit included trucks and couplers, while another did not. Sam Powell did a product review of this car in the June 1979 Railroad Master Craftsman issue. Warning: the sides tend to warp, so it is best to store them such that they maintain their flatness, until you are ready to build them. The resin may turn brittle with age.
