Notes:
This particular car is based on Pullman Plan No. 3992, lot number 6289, all assigned to the Pennsylvania Railroad, all named in the "Club" series (e.g. Friars Club). The kit consisted of photo-engraved brass components for sides (with window sashes already soldered in place), ends, vestibules, doors, and battery-box covers. Additional components included brass sheet floor, assorted wire, a brass-plated soft-metal K brake casting (not appropriate for these types of cars), gates for the diner kitchen doors, and seven wood shapes which together formed the hollow clerestory roof. The kit did not include trucks. Later editions of these cars had brass-plated soft-metal ends instead of photo-engraved brass sheet. These could not be soldered with available solders at the time, so they had to be epoxied in place. Dick Karnes' model has scratchbuilt underbody structural components made of styrene and ABS, as well as commercial components from Miller, B.T.S., Q-Car, and Prototype S Parts. The trucks are from S Scale Locomotive & Supply. The coupler housings are Super Scale. The roof vents are from Train Stuff. The kitchen ice hatch is a Walthers HO-scale part. The photos show both sides of the model.
