Product Type:

Brass/Wood Kit

Finish:

unpainted

Prototype Dimensions:

85'

Notes:

The kit consisted of photo-engraved brass components for sides (with window sashes already soldered in place), ends, vestibules, doors, and battery-box covers. Additional components included brass sheet floor, assorted wire, a brass-plated soft-metal K brake casting (not appropriate for these types of cars), and seven wood shapes which together formed the hollow clerestory roof. The kit did not include trucks. Later editions of these cars had brass-plated soft-metal ends instead of photo-engraved brass sheet. These could not be soldered with available solders at the time, so they had to be epoxied in place.

The kit includes cast styrene sides, milled basswood roof and floor, cast-metal ends, steps, and detailing parts. Does not include trucks nor couplers. This model is based on the ARA Class PC (CNJ #1169, 78, 479). Included white metal 4-wheel trucks. Warning: the sides tend to warp, so it is best to store them such that they maintain their flatness, until you are ready to build them. The resin may turn brittle with age.
