This was the first Rex product as produced by the original owner, Bert Carpenter. The model was still in production in 1992! Both a scale and a hi-rail model were produced. The model was based on the B&O 0-4-0. The product was reviewed in the March, 1962 S Gauge Herald (see the Supplementals 2 link). The product was still in the S&P Distributors (subsequent owners of the Rex product line) catalog of 1968 (see Supplementals 1 link). The model was re-run in 1989 (as per news announcement posted in the 1988 Model Railroader magazine) by Rex' new owner Putt Trains. The prototype was nicknamed "Little Joe". More photos and information can be found in the October 1992 issue of the 3/16 "S"cale Railroading magazine. The December 2002 issue of the NASG's Dispatch has an article about how to improve this model. Ed Sauers upgraded his model with HO-scale 66" drivers (48" S-scale), and took this video of the engine running. Steven Monson found an original unbuilt kit and describes it in his November 2019 article in the NASG's Dispatch issue.
