Welded sides, Superior doors, steel roof walk. The model in the photo is decorated for Bill's private road name. Bill used the original parts of the kit for everything, except for the roof, underframe, and details, which came from Pacific Rail Shops kits or were scratchbuilt. The roofwalk is from Plano (now owned by Des Plaines Hobbies). Couplers are Kadee, and the trucks are by American Models.

These kits consisted of a wooden framework (for the floor, two roof strips, end blocks, and spacer blocks), over which the pre-painted/lettered stamped metal sides, ends, roof, and roof walk were to be applied. This kit's sides did not have a road number on them (these would have numbers in the range of 8000 to 8099). Ed tried to match the kit's paint color for the extra parts he added. He added American Models' trucks, Kadee #808 S-scale couplers, and wood paneling on the interior.

Produced as the PRR X33, these models built by Ajin Precision Mfg, Seoul, Korea, came painted but unlettered. This was due to the fact that there are a number of different lettering schemes that could be applied to these PRR cars. The main photo shows Bill's model being lettered for the PRR X33a class in the post-1954 shadow-keystone scheme. The second photo is by Bob Werre of his model, which is lettered for the earlier circle-keystone scheme. The Detroit Toledo & Ironton railroad also used this box car design, copied from the PRR's, and sold some of them to the Northern Pacific after WWII.
