S-scale Stanton Drive

(updated)

Web Site

Smoky Mountain Model Works announced that they no longer sell the S-scale Stanton Drives. You should now be able to order them through your dealer, or from NorthWest Short Line directly (NWSL has made this product a regular item instead of a special-order one). The Stanton Drive encapsulates both the motor and the gears, all within the space of the truck. This allows for easy installation, and leaves the interior of the locomotive free for super-detailing, and installation of DCC decoders, speakers, or battery-powered solutions. The Stanton Drive can be used with DCC. Several wheelbases, wheel sizes, wheel thicknesses (code 87 and 110), and both powered and non-powered versions are available. See the NWSL web site for the complete listing. Each Stanton Drive has a stall current of 0.85 amps, so use one DCC decoder for each unit, or a 2+ amp decoder for two.

Modular Industrial Low-relief Structure Kit

(new)

e-mail

Milepost 169 announces the availability of the Modular Industrial Low-relief Structure and Floor option kits. This was the kit people worked on at the 2016 NASG hands-on clinic. Designed and produced exclusively for Milepost 169 by Monster Model Works, this base kit produces a two-story curtain-wall industrial structure featuring beautifully detailed brick walls and concrete pillars floors and cornice. The low-relief design makes this structure perfect for adding traffic to your layout. It is also perfect for creating a view block. Either way, it will add interest and traffic in a compact space. The light-weight, sturdy construction of the industrial building is perfect for modular layouts as well. The model is based on an architectural design style that has been around since 1905 and is still common all over North America. The pillars represent a reinforced concrete construction that supports multiple floors. The buildings were faced with brick "curtains" which gave a strong industrial look. However those curtains did not add to the structural strength of the building. As with the prototype, the base kit produces a solid three-story structure that can be used as-is or you can add additional floors with the floor kit. The symmetry of the design also lends itself to creating even larger structures by combining kits for added length, depth, height. Construction of the kit requires no special tools or experience. A beginner will be able to build a structure they will be proud of. The flexible design of the kit makes it a perfect canvas for an experienced model builder to create a craftsman level model. The two story base kit retails for $79.99, and the additional floor kits are $29.99 each, available from Milepost 169. Contact Ken Zieska at mhry19 @ gmail.com for more information (no web site). Special offer through the end of January 2017: Free Shipping!

(updated)

Web Site

Original Announcement September 23, 2016: Smoky Mountain Model Works announces a new 3D-printed detail of a phone/call box. The model consists of a 3D-printed box with braces, length of chain that you attach between the lock and "door", and a separate cast urethane roof due to its thin nature. The prototype was painted white with a silver roof and mounted to a post made from old rail. The same box in other locations might be mounted to a phone pole (rail and pole are not included). Price is $9.95 each plus shipping. Update: the part is now available, and it as a dedicated web page.
